How Items Work

Every item you add to ConsignCloud falls into one of three Inventory Types: Consignment, Buy Outright, or Retail.

The three inventory types

Consignment items are always associated with an account and when the item sells, a portion of the sale price (the Split) is added to that account's balance.

Buy Outright items are owned by your store, but you still associate the item with the account you bought them from, and set the amount you paid using the Cost Per field.

Retail items are owned entirely by your store and aren't tied to any account, so no split is set at entry or at sale.

Why this matters

Your Inventory Type determines how ConsignCloud tracks who's owed what. You can have different inventory types on different items throughout your store, but you'll likely want to set your default inventory type for whichever type is the most common at your store.
